Our
Story

Kalpavruksha is a youth-led initiative dedicated to creating meaningful, hands-on impact within local communities. Built on the belief that small actions can spark lasting change, we bring young people together to turn compassion into real-world support, awareness, and action.

Our work is centred around four key areas of service that allow us to support communities in different, meaningful ways. Through our food and grocery drives, we provide essential support to families doing it tough, with over 1,000 groceries donated each year to help ease everyday pressures and ensure access to basic needs. Our holiday hamper initiatives focus on bringing dignity and joy during important times of the year, making sure families feel supported and remembered during festive seasons.

Our student-led initiatives empower young people to take ownership of change. One example includes our Love Letter Drive, where students wrote heartfelt letters to spread kindness, connection, and encouragement to those who needed it most. These initiatives are designed to give students a voice and a platform to actively contribute to their community in creative and personal ways.

On the advocacy side, we focus on raising awareness and sparking conversation around important social issues. We have supported events such as The Biggest Morning Tea, contributing to cancer awareness and fundraising efforts, and led International Women’s Day video projects created by students and submitted to the Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians (CWP), amplifying youth voices on gender equality and empowerment.

Finally, our awareness campaigns aim to educate, engage, and inspire action within the wider community, ensuring that important issues are not only recognised but also meaningfully addressed.

At its core, Kalpavruksha is about connection—bridging communities, empowering young leaders, and creating spaces where compassion is turned into action.

About the founder

Anannya Bandaru is a medical student at Bond University and a youth leader from the Central Coast of New South Wales. She is the founder of Kalpavruksha, a youth-led initiative she started to turn compassion into practical, community-driven action. What began as a small idea to support local families has grown into a structured organisation led by young people, focused on service, advocacy, and empowering students to create meaningful impact.

Through Kalpavruksha, Anannya has helped lead large-scale community efforts, including donating over 1,000 groceries annually and developing student-led projects that encourage empathy, creativity, and civic engagement. Her work reflects a strong belief that young people are not just future leaders, but active changemakers right now.

In 2024, she was awarded Young Citizen of the Year as part of the Australia Day Awards, recognising her commitment to community service and leadership. The award highlighted her impact in initiating and growing Kalpavruksha, as well as her broader contributions to youth engagement and social awareness initiatives.
